Having never blogged before there's bound to be a few errors in here so bear with me - I've been learning a few new things recently. But this blog is not about most of those things, just the hillwalking. It's a way of sharing with friends and family a little of what I've been up to.
Of course those of you who know who i am know that this is not my first time hill-walking. I've taken opportunities to go walk in the hills at least once, sometimes a little more, in most but not all years since I was about 16. The difference is that occasional hill-walking doesn't give you the opportunity to really build competence, confidence and experience in the way that you can when you can walk regularly. As a result it seems possible to push the boundaries a little more and consider such things as overnight bivvy's, longer multi-day walks, scrambling and winter walking.
Moving from London to Penrith has made walking at least once in most weeks possible. Previously an opportunity to go walking meant driving for anything from 5 to 10 hours to get to Snowdonia for perhaps one full-day walk and one short walk before turning around and driving all the way back to London. Work may still be in London, but coming home at the weekend means much more hill-walking is possible. I will use this blog to post updates and a few pictures from my walks, as well as perhaps a few comments about the kit I am using as I discover such things as the ultra-light movement and some of the new technologies and fabrics that have appeared since last time I was replacing bits of kit. I may even add a few links to other interesting articles, reviews or blogs if I can work out how to do such things. Anyway, some real walking in the next post, I promise!
